Legislators’ cell phones will no longer work in the Legislative Assembly or in the Legislative Council. The officers who preside over both houses have ordered the security officer to replace old cell phone jammer with new models that would prevent both GSM (as well as old) and 3G phones from working.
“The current jamming devices could only keep 2G mobile phones from working, but not 3G models. It was therefore decided to replace all the interfering devices,” said representatives of the two houses of parliament.
KG. Bopaiah and D.H. Shankaramurthy, spokesman for the meeting and chairman of the council, were required to take care of the matter after 3 MLAs were filmed watching porn using their personal smartphones in the meeting building. “It was immediately after Shankaramurthy and Bopaiah were satisfied with the efficiency of the signal jammers, permission was given and we bought jammers,” was the official comment.
Sources claim that two officers taking the chair looked for the approval of top police officers in the communications department and also in the IB, which has the full right to block the operation of phones during VIP visits and other important events. “The number of jammers offered can be increased according to future requirements,” commented another official.
The selection process of these cell phone jammers for all of the assembly secretariat buildings is now continuing and Jammer Shop is participating; the Council has already achieved it.
“We used to have the Hyderabad jammers that cost us around Rs 75,000 ($ 1,500) for each device and that is expensive. Now we get these jammers from other suppliers, more reliable, and they are priced at Rs 25,000-30000 ( $ 500-600) and of the same quality, sometimes even better, less expensive, “said one official.
