The status of jammers is rising in various countries

As it stands now the Navy’s principal airborne electronic attack systems relies on technology developed in the 1970’s: While the service has switched from the old EA-6B Prowler to the new EA-18G Growler as its electronic attack aircraft, the actual radar-cell phone signal jammer systems on the aircraft are largely the same. Service leaders are worried that with rapid advances by China and Russia in electromagnetic warfare will put their pilots at a major disadvantage, sooner rather than later.

It’s not clear exactly which drones are being impacted, though NBC News claims that it’s affecting smaller drones and not MQ-9 Reaper or larger drones. This implies that the jammers, while effective, have a short operating range and that larger drones can simply fly above them. Then again, as Maritime Executive points out, larger drones also have backup inertial navigation systems and are not completely reliant on GPS. The jamming may affect smaller tactical drones such as the RQ-7 Shadow or ScanEagle.

Drone jammer gun Pro is a rifle shaped mobile signal jammer device that uses electromagnetic signals to either force a drone to land or return to its point of origin. After making waves with its sci-fi looking anti-drone jamming gun that quite literally shoots drones out of the sky, Perfectjammer has been picked up globally by nations and companies alike.Mobile phones were seized from Block 1,2,3,4 and High-Security block 1. A jammer had been installed in the prison premises two months back. Last year, there were allegedly 72 mobile phone cases registered, while the number is already at 64 this year.

This explanation is a bit superficial, and intended for simplifying things. However, if we try to “dig” deeper in to this issue, more parameters may enter the comparison between the signal levels of the two “links”.One example is the SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) that the receiver “sees”at its input. Sometimes the jamming signal arriving at the receiver input, can be lower than the communication (“partner’s”) signal and still prevail. This is happening because usually the receiver needs a certain “margin” between the two signals at its input, in order to be able to interpret one of them (usually the stronger one). However, in advanced communication systems, this “margin” can sometimes be even negative (meaning that the communication signal can be much lower than the jamming signal), and the receiver will still be able to interpret the “partner’s” signal, making jamming a much harder task.

The installation of jammers at the Welikada Prison to prevent prisoners from using mobile phones has affected the operations of the adjoining Government Printer, other institutions and residents, prompting them to take counter measures. Government Printer Ganga Liyange told the Sunday Times their mobile phone services had been disrupted as jammers had been set up at the Welikada Prisons.
