Specialized in microwave components, the Lille-based company MC2 Technologies has developed two types of jammers to neutralize drones thanks to waves: portable jammers and fixed jammers.
The portable version is in the form of a rifle connected to an electronic system with battery stored in a rucksack worn by the user. Antennas emit a signal consisting of waves of low power (thus without danger for humans) to scramble the drone in flight over a distance of 300 to 600 meters. Once hit, the drone will fall or land. This cell phone jammer is mainly used by state services to neutralize drones during gatherings of people or sensitive sites.
The fixed jammer is associated with a turret system with a radar and a camera controlled remotely that allow an automatic jamming on 1 km. Developed in collaboration with the company CS Communication & Systèmes, which has developed the detection system of the drone, it allows to secure fixed sensitive sites (stadiums, airports, buildings …).
In addition to jammers, MC2 Technologies has also designed a camera that can scan and detect through the walls and clothing the hidden objects on a person, through the recovery of microwave waves emitted by the body. This system is mainly exported to China where it is used in railway stations, metro and highway control points.
The product will evolve further, especially in terms of design. It could eventually equip private companies and nuclear power plants.
Founded in 2004, the company MC2 Technologies is in a growth phase, it currently has 30 employees and plans to recruit 20 people by the end of 2017. To ensure the development and production of these innovative technologies, it will move to a new location. new 2500 m² site running in 2018.
