You want to buy a cell phone jammer? Learn here what you can use a jammer for and what you need to consider before you buy.
Mobile phone jammers, also known as cell phone blockers or jammers, are devices that interfere with radio communications such as mobile phone networks, WLAN or GPS by emitting radio waves. The range is between 10 and 40 meters. The military and the government even have models that can disrupt radio signals for kilometers.
What can mobile phone jammers be used for?
Retailers can use jammers to keep you from comparing prices in the store. This may allow retailers to increase their sales.
In certain areas where quietness is desired or distractions are to be avoided, jammers can also be useful. For example, ringing cell phones during a movie show or chatting with teens in schools can be prevented.
Criminals could use jammers to interfere with wireless alarms and other wireless connections and prevent the deployment of an emergency call over the wireless network.
Are cell phonejammers allowed?
Within the EU, the use and trade of such mobile phone blockers is prohibited. A use can cost up to 1000 euros fine. If the jammer obstructs emergency calls, the penalty can be much higher. In some European countries, jammers are approved by the authorities. For example, such devices are sometimes used in French cinemas and theaters. But in Germany that is precisely regulated: Who wants to use radio frequencies, needs an allocation under the Telecommunications Act.
Even the importation of such devices is prohibited and strictly controlled. The devices are then confiscated – in addition, high fines imposed.
