Cell phones are almost ineffective in prison

The Parisian institution, which has been closed for several years, is now “opening” the door again and is equipped with a new jammer system for portable phones, with fixed phones installed in the unit. This 2.8-hectare health prison was completed in the center of the 14th district of Paris in 1867 and has become the most obvious sign of the decline in the number of French prisons over the years.

Medical care, which has been closed for several years, is now being reopened by integrating an important technological development at the prison level, and if this technology can work, it can be used in other facilities. In 2017, 70,000 prisoners in 180 prisons in France seized 40067 phones and accessories. In addition, according to the government, portable jammer are largely ineffective. During the renovation of the health prison in Paris, the authorities decided to develop and maintain a brand new six-person mobile phone interference system, the French company SAGI.fr. At the same time, the fixed telephone is now installed in the unit.

Agence France-Presse reported that Telio is one of the leading European companies in this field and has been granted a fixed-line public service concession for ten years. “Using the landline phone in the cell is an appeal for detention. Detainees can call their families without restriction,” said Chris Taylor Roach, the head of the agency’s AFP. Prisoners can only dial pre-approved phone numbers. No telephone is installed in the isolation room or discipline room. For fixed-line telephones, Telio is responsible for all investment and is paid by the price of the call made by the prisoner. In mainland France, the cost of calling a fixed network is 0.08 euros per minute, and for mobile phones is 0.18 euros.
